Mark Warburton may well have a headache or two over the next day or so.
That’s because he could welcome back as many as four players into the first team reckoning for Sunday’s game at Derby County.
The Nottingham Forest manager has been able to give the likes of Matty Cash, Jamie Ward and David Vaughan two more weeks’ recovery time to get themselves ready for a return to action after lengthy layoffs, thanks to the international break.
Vaughan has been out for two months, while neither Cash or Ward have featured in competitive first team action this season after picking up problems before the campaign got underway.
Cash did clock up a valuable 45 minutes in Monday night’s Under-23s win at Bolton Wanderers and will hope that he may be involved on Sunday, while Matt Mills returns after a one-game suspension against Sheffield United having accumulated five bookings in the opening 10 Championship games.
Vaughan, as has been well documented, is arguably key to the way that Forest play and is the most likely of the three injured returnees to start the game at Pride Park, though Ward’s combative style may be an attraction to have on the bench for Warburton.
