Notts County striker Shola Ameobi has forged a reputation as a striker capable of carving up defences – and he showed similar incisiveness cutting up his own birthday cake.
The former Newcastle United forward turned 36 today, and to celebrate his big day he was presented with a caterpillar cake made out of chocolate.
Journalists in the media room at Meadow Lane all sang happy birthday to a bashful Ameobi who let out a huge grin before blowing out the candles.
He later thanked the media team for their gift before leaving the press conference with a considerable slice of cake on his plate.
Ameobi’s birthday comes at the end of a busy week for the club who saw Matt Tootle have to buy the cakes for his team-mates having turned 27 on Wednesday.
That followed club captain Michael O’Connor who turned 30 last Friday, with Nicky Hunt also recently celebrating turning 34 last month.
Notts fans will hope Ameobi will celebrate his 36th birthday with a goal against Barnet this weekend.
