One of Liverpool’s favourite Christmas traditions continues to get a new lease of life in a different venue this year.

For the second successive festive season, the 5m tall Father Christmas which took pride of place at Blacklers department store between 1957 and 1988 will be installed in the foyer at the Museum of Liverpool.

Major restoration work took place after original artist Peter Blazey donated the head, hands and boots of the model to the museum in 2013 with the body and costume recreated using cane, plaster and a little Christmas magic.

When the model first went on display at the Museum last year it was a massive hit, securing his return for another Christmas.

In the 1950s, the model stood on the central staircase in the main hallway of the store which stood on the corner of Elliot Street and Great Charlotte Street.

The store was famous for its Winter Wonderland Grotto which attracted more than 10,000 visitors a week.
