Luke Molyneux hit a hat-trick as Sunderland U23s ran riot against Annfield Plain of the Wearside League in the Durham County Cup at Eppleton.
The Black Cats were 4-0 up at half-time, with Williams Kokolo setting the tone with a goal inside the first minute before Molyneux, Chris Allan and Josh Robson got in on the act.
Then Sunderland blew Plain away with a five-goal blast in a 15-minute spell in the second period, with Molyneux adding two more, as did sub Jean Yves Poame, and Jack Diamond also on target.
Sub Lee Connelly took Sunderland into double figures, with Diamond wrapping things up.
The Black Cats will now go into the draw for the first round, with that tie due to be played before October 28.
Sunderland coach Elliot Dickman named a young side, made up of a mix of U23 regulars and scholars.
And the Black Cats made a dream start when 17-year-old summer signing from Monaco, Kokolo, latched onto a throughball and fired them in front with only 34 seconds on the clock.
