South African FA president says they will play against Senegal – 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Just after FIFA ordered the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal be replayed, the South African Football Association wanted to contest the decision.

However, in a meeting on Monday, SAFA decided to oblige with the ruling and have the match replayed based on ethical and moral grounds.

SAFA president Danny Jordaan spoke to the media on Tuesday at the OR Tambo International Airport as he announced their decision on the matter.

He said they will not contest FIFA’s decision to replay the 2018 Soccer World Cup qualifier between Bafana Bafana and the Teranga Lions if there is evidence of match manipulation.

“Our position is clear on the issue of match fixing and manipulation. We cannot benefit from such and take the points”, Jordaan told reporters.

“We agree with FIFA that the match should be replayed. We don’t support match-fixing. We want that to be clear.

“This is a moral and ethical matter. We asked “If this match was manipulated, do you as SAFA want those points?.”

Bafana claimed a 2-1 win in Polokwane in November 2016 after Ghanaian referee, Joseph Lamptey handed the South Africans a penalty, which was protested by the Senegalese FA.

Lamptey has since been banned from the game for life for match manipulation and Bafana are now left with one point at…
