McCall thinks that the 28-year-old has now moved to a bigger club with the Gers in a comparison between them and Premier League side Brighton.

“Rangers are getting a top player” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.

“He’s managed his career brilliantly. He left Motherwell for a bigger club with huge crowds in Sheffield United.

“He did well there and moved to a bigger club in Brighton. Now he’s gone to a bigger club again.”

Murphy made his Light Blues debut playing 45 minutes in Thursday’s Florida Cup match against Atletico Minerio.

The game was won 1-0 thanks to a Josh Windass goal, but of more interest to Rangers fans was fellow January signing Sean Goss making his debut and Andy Halliday and Michael O’Hallloran making their return after spending the first-half of the season out on loan.
