Rangers news: Burt return could be best news for Rangers this week

Rangers have spent the last week in the United States preparing for the second-half of the season with a winter training camp at the world-class IMG Academy in Florida – but it’s news from closer to home that should have the Gers delighted.

In Thursday’s Under-20’s fixture with Falkirk, talented attacker Liam Burt made his long-awaited comeback after a nine-month injury struggle.

Burt marked his return by setting up Andy Dallas for the Gers’ second goal in a 2-1 win over the Bairns.

Burt is one of the most promising players in the Gers Academy and was one of their best performers last season under Graeme Murty.

While Ross McCrorie has made a place for himself in the starting XI and Jamie Barjonas is a regular in matchday squads, Burt has had to kick his heels on the sidelines.

The 18-year-old made his first-team debut a few years ago under Mark Warburton but hasn’t made the breakthrough to become a regular member of the first-team squad but after nine months out, Burt will be desperate to make up for lost time.

The attacker brings a certain ‘gallusness’ and is a potent threat going forward for the Gers.

Murty is perfectly aware of what the youngster is capable of and could well be the next Academy starlet to make the step up to the first-team on a regular basis.
