KW: FSG did make significant efforts this summer – most notably with Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk. They, along with Mo Salah, were the three players they dearly wanted to bring to Anfield.
RB Leipzig wouldn’t do a deal with the Reds but the club were actually quite creative to ensure the Guinean will be theirs come next season.
Van Dijk was a shambles from start to finish, and once Southampton threatened to report Liverpool to the Premier League, that was very much game over for the summer.
Should there have been a back up for van Dijk? In my eyes, undoubtedly yes. But that wasn’t down to FSG – that was to do with Jurgen Klopp. He insists he is happy with what he has.
FSG are not perfect and they have made mistakes. I’m not sure they can be accused of not making ‘significant efforts’ in the summer, however.

KW: Liverpool would love Can to stay but a new contract would come with a) a very big wage and b) a release clause. The club are unwilling to meet his camp’s demands – so far.
