Despite saying he will not vote for Baroka FC goalkeeper Oscarine Masuluke’s goal, Orlando Pirates keeper Jackson Mabokgwane has set the record straight.
The former Mpumalanga Black Aces keeper was quoted by a local radio station as saying he will not vote for his counterpart because voting is for supporters.
Masuluke scored a spectacular bicycle-kick during their 2016/17 Absa Premiership match against the Soweto giants to make it 1-1 in Polokwane.
The goal has got the nod and is among the best three goals in the world nominated in the final three-man shortlist for the FIFA Puskas Award.
“I’m a football player I don’t go around voting‚ I only play football,” Mabokgwane told PowerFM. “Voting is for supporters‚ it’s for fans‚ people should vote for him if they like the goal.”
However, he took to his official Twitter account and set the record straight, saying he voted via the FIFA website.
My sarcastic response ws due to reporter’s line of questioning. I ws 1st to congratulate hm n I’ve voted. I urge all South Africans to vote pic.twitter.com/Y4YjgnJ1rr
