It has been an interesting summer so far for the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern…
Last season was a very successful one for the Reds, and a return to the Champions League was the least that they deserved after a stellar campaign under Jurgen Klopp.
Their summer so far, though, hasn’t quite gone to plan, and at this rate, our landlord is concerned that the Reds may struggle to compete in Europe.
The signings of Dom Solanke and Mohamed Salah have been masked somewhat by the failure to land Virgil van Dijk, and according to ESPN, Liverpool’s summer is about to get even worse.
ESPN report that RB Leipzig have warned Liverpool off of launching another move for Naby Keita, with sources stating that the midfielder will not be sold under any circumstances this summer.
This will come as a huge blow for the Reds, as the side are said to have made a €68 million (£59.6 million) offer for the midfielder – signalling that he is a key target for Jurgen Klopp this summer.
Keita enjoyed a stellar campaign for RB Leipzig last season, which certainly helps to explain why they don’t want to let him go, but his fine form also serves to reason why Liverpool have been so desperate to land him. For all of the Reds’ qualities, they lack a midfielder in the ilk of N’Golo Kante – one that is able to break up play and defend the backline – and Keita could well have been that player.
Our landlord thinks that Jurgen Klopp may have to go back to the drawing board.
