Leeds United set to make move for 6ft 1in Lasogga replacement this summer

As reported by The Daily Mail, Leeds United are set to revive their interest in Serie B striker Jerry Mbakogu during this summer’s transfer window.

What’s the story?

The paper say that that the Nigerian was a £3.5m target for the Elland Road side during last month’s window, with his club Carpi ruling out any move as they push for promotion to the Italian top-flight.

However, it appears that Leeds are intent on signing the physical forward and could be boosted in their attempts to sign him with the player applying for an Italian passport, circumventing any work permit problems, according to the report.

With Pierre-Michel Lasogga set to return to Hamburg at the end of the season, is the 25-year-old a potential replacement for the German striker?

Lasogga’s replacement?

Given Lasogga is on Bundesliga-level wages at his parent club, which Leeds are only paying a portion of, a summer move for the target man could prove difficult when his loan spell ends.

Mbakogu could perform a similar role in the Leeds team, able to play as a target man and bang in goals along the way. This season he has eight in total in 21 appearances which, while not prolific, is exactly the same as Lasogga’s output for Leeds.
