Leeds United are in the fray to get the signature of 31 year old Matt Derbyshire. The Championship side’s new manager, Thomas Christiansen wants to bring in Derbyshire to add some much needed impetus at the front. If he arrives, Derbyshire can expect to be paired up with Chris Wood who was in sensational form this past season.
The inclusion of Derbyshire to the squad is bound to aid current main man, Wood. The New Zealand striker was often the only man up front and even though he managed to score 27 goals in all competitions, Christiansen does not want to take any chances.
Christiansen is keen on making the former England Under 21 international his first signing for the club. The Spanish gaffer only took up his role at the club last week after Gary Monk resigned from the post following a disagreement with new owner, Andrea Radrizzani. Christiansen wants to ensure Leeds do not fall short of even the play off positions for the second season running.
Derbyshire will have a tough decision on his hand with a number of clubs after his signature. The Omonia Nikosia was prolific in front of the goal in the Cypriot League scoring 26 goals in all competitions. The striker is wanted by Greek giants, Panathanaikos owing to his goal scoring ability.
If Leeds manage to sign Derbyshire from his club, Christiansen will finally have his man finally. The gaffer has been after the striker since when he was managing arch rivals, Apoel. Moreover, Derbyshire is being offered a home coming by Leeds as he earlier plied his trade for the likes of Birmingham Rovers.
