Juan Mata feels that Manchester United’s run-in between now and the festive period can potentially be season-defining.
The Reds will be looking to continue the impressive start to the campaign when taking on fierce rivals Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, in our first game after the international break.
But Jose Mourinho’s men also face a tough schedule leading up to Christmas – with difficult games against Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City to come in the Premier League, as well as three more UEFA Champions League matches.
Mata has stressed the importance of the upcoming period of fixtures as autumn turns to winter in the context of the entire campaign, and says the team are relishing the busy spell that lies ahead.
“From now on until Christmas, it’s really important,” the Spaniard told ManUtd.com. “We play games every two or three days and play seven or eight games a month and that can define your season overall. So, we need to be ready for this, physically and mentally, and I think we are on our way.”
The unbeaten Reds are currently joint-top of the Premier League with six wins from the first seven games. But, heading into the crunch Saturday lunchtime clash against Jurgen Klopp’s men, Mata feels United must put the magnificent form prior to the international break to one side and concentrate on what will be a tough assignment.
