‘I am not allowed to swear, am I?’ – Nottingham Forest boss Mark Warburton reacts to derby defeat


Mark Warburton has told his Nottingham Forest players their fortunes will change – but only if they keep believing in their own ability.

The Reds suffered a morale-sapping, agonising 2-0 defeat on another frustrating afternoon at Pride Park, as arch-rivals Derby County showed exactly the ruthless streak that Warburton’s side were badly lacking.

Barrie McKay, Jason Cummings, Daryl Murphy and Tyler Walker all had gilt-edged chances to find the back of the net, but failed to show the same cutting edge as Matej Vydra and David Nugent, who netted at the start of each half – with Vydra netting after just 24 seconds.

It was yet another Championship performance where Forest dominated for long spells and played some decent football – but paid the price for failing to convert any of their numerous openings.

Warburton admitted it was “frustrating beyond belief” to suffer defeat in the East Midlands derby.

But he says he has absolute belief Forest are on the right path – and that positive results will come, if they add some cutting edge to their performances.

“The players know what is involved, they know what is at stake, they know what it means – but I know the quality we have in there as well,” said Warburton. “I have no doubts that it will come, I believe it will.
