The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have mixed feelings about the potential of this playmaker moving on to another club.
Despite the fact that Ronald Koeman has said he could see a future without playmaker, Ross Barkley, he has slapped a £50 million price tag on him.
Understandably, our landlord has a bit of a headache now.
Let’s break it down, in 179 appearances for The Toffees, Ross Barkley has scored 27 goals and provided 28 assists.
So, Barkley has contributed to 55 goals in 179 games at Everton, one every 3.2 games.
Contributing to one goal every 3.2 games should make his valuation more in the region of £25 million pounds at a stretch.
Taking into account he has one year left on his contract, that valuation should probably drop slightly further to around £20 million.
Our landlord reckons £20 million is a fair price for a player who has never really shown much of the potential everyone believes he has.
Tottenham have emerged as the front runners for his signatures and there is no way Daniel Levy will be paying £50 million for a player who will most likely be a backup for the Tottenham squad.
Tottenham already have the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen so Barkley will likely find himself warming the bench if he were to make the move.
To summarise, Ross Barkley is in no way worth £50 million, it is just another valuation of the modern-day transfer market that is getting quite out of hand.
With players like Wayne Rooney and Davy Klaassen joining the club in a similar position, Koeman should drop the asking price and move Barkley on before he leaves on a free next year.
