East Kilbride boss Alan Paterson slammed the decision to send off Scott McKean in their West of Scotland Cup defeat to Shotts.

The Thistle striker was a marked man at Hannah Park and took a few sore ones from the Shotts defence.

He scored a stunning strike to pull his side level at 1-1 just before the break but, with the Jags trailing 2-1 midway through the second half, he was given his marching orders for kicking out at an opponent.

Shotts made sure of the win in stoppage time but Paterson left the field feeling a sense of injustice.

He told the News: “I don’t like to hark on about referees but some of the decisions he made absolutely baffled me.

“It was a great cup tie for anyone who watched it but the referee made some strange calls for both teams.

“The worst one was with Scott McKean. He took a doing all day long. They kicked him all over the park because he was too quick for them.

“Scott gave their player a nip back and the guy went down like he’d been hit by a JCB.

“I thought he was going to get a booking but the ref sent him off.

“It was stupid, what Scott did, but a lot worse things happened in the game.

“That was so typical because we’d been complaining all game that he wasn’t getting enough protection from the ref and he’s the one that gets sent off.
