Thieves targeted a renowned Liverpool bakery again – but escaped with just a TOASTER.

Intruders smashed into the at Anfield co-operative Homebaked, close to the Reds’ stadium, just six months after a previous break-in , when hundreds of pounds were stolen.

On this occasion, on Wednesday night, the criminals left virtually empty-handed, leaving the scene with mere crumbs – a toaster.

The burglary happened some time between 11.30pm and 4.45am this morning, hours after Liverpool’s 7-0 thrashing of Spartak Moscow in the Champions League.

Bosses at the bakery believe the same person is responsible for the two thefts.

The offenders clambered up to a first floor window, ripped off wooden boards and smashed through three interior doors.

Today, Homebaked told its customers: “We will be late opening this morning as we’ve been broken into again!

“There was nothing to take so they’ve trashed the shop & we are waiting for police to take prints. We will be open ASAP.”

Homebaked has become an Anfield institution since it launched as a co-operative, run by residents to support the surrounding community.

Run by volunteers, the Oakfield Road bakery is a favourite among Liverpool FC fans – with the Shankly Pie among its most famous creations.

Staff were shocked to find the bakery had been targeted by thieves.
