Celtic are lining up a move for Sunderland midfielder Ethan Robson when the transfer window reopens in the summer. According to recent reports in the English media, the Hoops are set to go head to head with their local rivals Rangers in pursuit of the English youngster’s signature. The 21-year-old midfield talent has not penned a new deal with the Black Cats and could be in line to make a switch to Glasgow at the end of the current campaign. Both the Glaswegian clubs are set to battle it out in what is expected to be a cut-price deal for the Sunderland starlet.
Brendan Rodgers’ side are ready to swoop in for Robson’s signature when his contract with the Tynesiders expire in the summer. The Houghton-le-Spring born midfielder will cost around £150,000 in training compensation if he ends up leaving English football next summer. However, the Sunderland starlet’s market value is in the region of £2m after his rapid emergence at the Stadium of Light this season. He can be considered as a huge prospect for the future with Celtic now looking to add him to their ranks. The 21-year-old graduated from the Sunderland Academy and has broken into the Black Cats first-team after captaining their Under-23 side.
Robson is yet to agree on a new long-term contract and has refused to commit his future to the club beyond this season, which has sparked interest from other clubs.
