Captain is such an important role; you’ve got to have right man in place, says Nottingham Forest legend

I have no doubt it was a really proud moment for Joe Worrall when he captained Nottingham Forest for the first time.

He will have loved leading the team out against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday. It’s just a shame Forest didn’t get the right result.

He’s definitely someone who seems to be captaincy material, though – even if he has to wait a few years to wear the armband on a more regular basis.

Joe is vocal on the pitch and is no doubt the same in the dressing room. He’s not afraid to say what he thinks. He’s not afraid to come out and say something if he thinks it needs saying. I like that.

Brian Clough took him everywhere he went, so that shows how much the gaffer trusted him. And, as a player, when you see someone like Cloughie put their faith in John, you know he must have something about him – and he certainly did.

Being captain is such an important role in any team. It’s not just wearing an armband and walking out first.

You look at players like John Terry at Chelsea and Bryan…
