The Trump administration Thursday gave notice on withdrawing from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, effective Jan. 1, 2018.
This happened before. We quit UNESCO from 1985 to 2002 due to persistent anti-Western bias. This time it’s the constant undermining of Israel, tinged with anti-Semitism.
2011: The Palestinian Authority, skirting peace talks, won UNESCO membership, prompted the U.S. to stop paying its dues.
2015: A resolution on “Israeli aggressions and illegal measures against the freedom of worship and Muslims’ access to their holy site.”
2016: UNESCO called the Western Wall and Temple Mount by only their Muslim names.
May: A UNESCO resolution asserted that Israel has no legal or historical rights in Jerusalem.
July: After Israel’s ambassador asked for a minute of silence for Holocaust victims, Cuba’s envoy called for the same for “Palestinians who have died in the region.” Goodbye, UNESCO.
